Cultural Humility in Clinical Practice

In order to practice psychotherapy in a safe manner, psychotherapists require a level of cultural humility. Cultural humility allows for the recognition that we are all cultural beings, and therefore see the world from the lens of our own cultural experiences. Once we can be aware of this, we can start to recognize and gently challenge our assumptions in order to be more open to the lived experiences of our clients.

Culturally-Adapted and Anti-Oppressive Approaches to Evidence-Based Therapies

Most evidence-based psychotherapy interventions were designed without culture and diversity in mind. Yet, research shows that without integration of culture, psychotherapy could potentially be harmful. Dr. Taslim has adapted several evidence-based psychotherapy interventions to be more culturally-informed and anti-oppressive. She offers training and workshops to psychotherapists and organizations to enable them to offer more culturally safe practices.
